Finally I am in Laos. Getting here was quite the adventure but actually pretty fun because I got to meet loads of people. Saturday spent five hours on a bus. And Sunday and Monday about 8 hours each day on a “slow boat” putting along the Mekong River. Interestingly, though, on the over-crowded boat, I didn’t meet one American. There were at least 10 Canadians out of the about 100 people on board, yet not one Yank.

Jayna, you look so relaxed and happy.
ok…this looks fun! boating down the Mekong! rad! are you meeting travel partners?
I was SO relaxed…I mean we couldn’t do much else but meet each other and read. Sometimes we complained about the long ride, but I have to say I’m sure it’s much better than taking the bus and definitely glad I did it.
I met quite a few people on the trip, and Luang Prabang is SO small, I’ve run into them all at least a few times just walking down the street. I’ve been hanging out with different ones, so it’s been nice. We’re all somewhat on the same trails, too, so I’m sure I’ll meet up with some of them again.
Today I went bike riding with a group of nine others from the boat and one of the girls was from the US. The Wisconsin tattoo should’ve given it away before, but I’d somehow convinced myself that it was instead a random European country when I saw it on the boat.
