Having a surprise welcome-back dinner in NYC, I am reminded that I’m definitely back in the states…and that my friends and I could easily be confused as snotty little brats.
N: So how did the apartment turn out? (I make an ugly face and stick out my tongue) That bad, huh?
Me: Well, I get off the subway and the guy is waiting for me. First thing he does is ask me what I’ve been doing after Teach For America. I say, “Well, my undergraduate degree was in journalism…” He interrupts with, “Oh, really? Me too.” Naturally, I ask, “Yeah? Where did you go?” His reply? “kansas.” I just stopped and gave him a look of disgust. I mean, seriously. You call that a journalism degree? (laughter from the tables)
P: Please tell me you actually said that to him.
D: Really, though. It is a communications school.
E: Hey! I went to a communications school.
D: Exactly.
But, yeah. Apparently the welcome-back finances (and apartment location) have made me desperate. It looks like this summer I’ll be sleeping in a kU grad’s bed…something I can guarantee you will never happen again.
How long are you in NYC for??? I’ll be up on Thursday – Sunday.
Argh! Hopefully we’ll catch up next time!
